The Role
We're looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to architect, build, and scale a next-generation backend and platform for AI-driven data centre infrastructure — not maintain someone else's roadmap. You'll take an existing prototype and turn it into a secure, production-grade platform, working across cloud infrastructure, DevOps, backend services, and real-time orchestration, while helping lay the technical foundation for future engineering growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Own platform architecture and lead the transition from prototype to production-ready deployment.
- Design and maintain cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps automation.
- Build and maintain backend systems, APIs, orchestration services, and operational tooling.
- Translate thermal, power, and closed-loop control requirements into platform architecture decisions.
- Establish best practices for security, uptime, observability, and incident response.
- Operate across both strategic and hands-on work, and support future team growth through mentorship and hiring input.
- Give realistic estimates and flag risks or delays early, before they become a problem.
- Own budget and cost management across cloud infrastructure and platform operations.
- Drive key technical and architectural decision-making, weighing tradeoffs and risk independently.
Required Qualifications
- Prior experience as a Solution Architect.
- 6+ years in backend, infrastructure, or platform engineering, with a track record taking products from prototype to production.
- Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
- Experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) and high-volume data pipelines (Kafka, Kinesis, MQTT, or similar).
- Strong backend engineering, API development, and production security/hardening experience.
- Startup or high-growth company experience, comfortable operating independently and managing ambiguity.
- Meaningful understanding of at least one of: optimization/ML infrastructure, multi-objective decision systems, or infrastructure telemetry and monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in AI infrastructure, data centers, energy systems, or industrial automation.
- Familiarity with optimization frameworks, MILP solvers, or real-time/edge orchestration.
- Experience with liquid cooling, thermal optimization, or power-aware infrastructure.
- Prior experience as a founding engineer or early-stage technical lead.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary: $120,000–$160,000 CAD, based on experience.
